According to reports in the Italian media, Udinese right back Silvan Widmer could be the subject of a €10m bid from West Ham United this summer.

Italian media outlet Il Messaggero (reported via Sport Witness) claim that West Ham are preparing a €10m offer for Silvan Widmer.

Right back has been a longstanding “problem position” for the Hammers.

West Ham failed to land one last summer until bringing in Alvaro Arbeloa on transfer deadline day.

The former Spain international was scarcely used, though.

Sam Byram has been the number one choice at right back but he is still developing and he has also spent large periods of time out injured.

This summer, the Hammers swooped to land Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer after the veteran Argentine left Manchester City.

He is expected to be the short-term solution to the right back problem and will mentor Sam Byram.

However, reports in Italy are now claiming that the Hammers are not yet done in right back recruitment.

Silvan Widmer is on our radar ahead of a possible move.

The Switzerland international is also attracting interest from Lazio so the Irons would have to move swiftly to land him.

West Ham are said to be preparing a €10m bid for the 24-year-old.
