West Ham United midfielder Havard Nordtveit did not enjoy the most successful debut season at the club despite the major hype surrounding him.

Havard Nordtveit arrived on a free transfer from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach with experience of top flight German football and the Champions League.

Although he was highly rated in Germany, the Norway international struggled to make a similar impact at West Ham and was forced to play out of position on numerous occasions.

Slaven Bilic had Nordtveit filling in at right back, where he looked desperately out of his depth.

On the few occasions he did play as a holding midfielder, he showed glimpses of promise.

However, Havard Nordtveit has now been sold permanently by West Ham.

Hoffeheim have completed the signing of Nordtveit for an undisclosed fee, the official website has confirmed.

Nordtveit still had four years left on his current West Ham deal but has chosen to return to Germany.

The 26-year-old managed 21 games in all competitions for the Hammers in his only season but now he has secured his return to the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim finished fourth in the German top division last season and will compete in European football next term.

West Ham thanked the ex-Arsenal midfielder for his efforts during his time in East London.
