West Ham United have confirmed on the club’s official website that promising young defender Reece Oxford will spend the year on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach have finalised a loan deal to acquire Reece Oxford’s services for the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign.
Oxford first burst onto the scene when he made his debut in the Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on the opening day of the 2015/16 season.
It was Slaven Bilic’s first game in charge and Oxford was thrown into midfield but handled himself well and attracted a lot of hype.
Since then, the England youth international has not quite hit the heights expected of him and most recently had an unsuccessful loan spell at Championship side Reading.
Both West Ham and Reece Oxford will hope that this loan to the Bundesliga will be the making of the 18-year-old, who has been dubbed the “next Rio Ferdinand”.
The towering central defender, who can also play as a holding midfielder, is the direct replacement for Andreas Christensen after the Chelsea defender’s two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach came to an end.
The talented teenager will join up with his new team officially on July 1st ahead of his year in Germany.
