West Ham United have dropped out of the race to sign Jermain Defoe and he is closing in on a move to Bournemouth instead, reports The Telegraph.

Jermain Defoe has previously played for both sides but West Ham, who had been heavily linked with a move for Defoe, have ended their interest.

The Hammers have apparently been put off by Defoe’s demands.

Reports last week claimed that Defoe would demand wages of £100k per week as well as a £6m signing on fee despite being available as a free agent due to a relegation clause in his Sunderland contract.

The England international has scored 15 Premier League goals this season but it was not enough to keep the Black Cats alive in the Premier League.

As West Ham drop out of the race, Bournemouth close in.

Defoe previously had a loan spell at Bournemouth while at West Ham early in his career.

The 34-year-old is now thought to be discussing personal terms with the Cherries and his return to the south coast is expected to be completed shortly.
