We’re well into to pre-season now but we’re still waiting for the club to make some much-needed summer signings.
With squad depth very thin heading into a Europa League campaign, David Moyes desperately needs to sign a striker, midfielder and a centre-back at the very least, but so far we’ve seen no movement in any department.
However, one positive to have come out of the summer so far is Conor Coventry’s performances in pre-season. The midfielder has scored twice since coming back from his summer break and is making the most of playing in midfield while Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek enjoy their extended breaks.
And it appears his performances have made a good impression in Moyes, who has been very impressed with the 21-year-old so far, according to ExWHUemployee (via West Ham Fan Zone).
While a central midfielder remains at the top of the transfer wishlist for Moyes, having Coventry available for first-team action does add more much-needed depth as we head into a hugely important and busy campaign.
Here’s what some fans were saying about it on Twitter…
A decent youngster who starts progressing in the first team is what Hammers supporters love. Let’s hope he gets the exposure to the Premier League like Rice did 👍🏻

It’s probably more like, Moyes is relieved that Coventry is progressing well because he knows he can’t sign anybody else

The lad needs game time, hope he gets it with Europa league games.
To the doubters – I am sure you were with the same feeling about Dec when he started with the first team https://t.co/JlzU1b7pnd

That’s convenient, a youth player in a position we need acquire for position depth just happens to be impressing the manager.
How lucky. There’s definitely no chance GSB made Moyes say this in an attempt to disguise a bad transfer window. https://t.co/B8tc3nbvNj
