West Ham’s search for another centre-back took an unexpected turn last week.
The Athletic revealed last week that the club are considering a move for Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, who is reportedly available for around £10m this summer.
Having allowed Fabian Balbuena to leave the club on a free last month, Moyes only has three senior centre-backs in his squad – Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop. With Ogbonna and Dawson both the wrong side of 30, it would no doubt pay to start looking at younger options in order to plan for the future.
Phillips, 24, certainly fits that bill and impressed heavily for Liverpool last season, deputising admirably during the Reds’ well-documented defensive injury crisis.
The centre-half played a key role in ensuring Liverpool finished 3rd last season as they put together a run of nine league matches unbeaten to finish the campaign strongly, keeping four clean sheets in the process.
However, with players returning from injury, Phillips is expected to drop back down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order and is therefore reportedly free to leave if a bid comes in for him.
And West Ham are a club supposedly interested in his services, according to The Athletic.
So when Twitter user @COYIrons_com asked fans if they be happy if the defender was signed for £10m this summer, these fans gave their thoughts…
Has decent attributes for our team, such as good heading abilities so wouldn’t be the worst transfer. Still I think we’ve have been linked with a few better CBs this summer

Yes. Really impressed with him when we played them. He’s got something to build on and is only young

No, 5th choice at Liverpool so no good for us

If we’re not planning to spend big at the back then definitely

Absolutely, 24 years old, good enough for the 1st team, and 10m is a steal

Yes for depth, no for starting
