West Ham continued their pre-season preparations with a very impressive 6-2 thrashing of Celtic on Saturday.

Goals from Michail Antonio (2), Mark Noble, Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Armstrong Okoflex ensured David Moyes came away from his return to the east end of Glasgow with a massive smile on his face.

Of course, pre-season friendlies mean nothing when it comes to results. They’re only there for players to gain match-fitness, get used to tactics and to mainly get back up to speed after a few weeks off.

You can’t use pre-season results as a barometer for what to expect in the coming season, either. Under Avram Grant, West Ham went the summer unbeaten but followed that up by finishing rock-bottom of the Premier League in 2010/2011, winning just seven league games.

So we shouldn’t be getting too excited just yet, even when a severely under-strength West Ham side wipes the floor with a near-full-strength Celtic outfit, who are currently competing in the Champions League qualification rounds.

But that didn’t stop these fans from getting their hopes up on Twitter, with them all buzzing with the result and eagerly anticipating the coming season as a result…
