West Ham continue to be extremely busy on the transfer market and a significant saga looks to be developing around the future of a young asset.

The Hammers had a deal set-up for Reece Burke to move to Championship side Hull City for £1.5m this week but The Sun now claims Derby County have made a late swoop to hijack that deal.

Derby, led by West Ham academy graduate Frank Lampard, have made an improved offer to capture the 21-year-old and Burke is tempted due to the manager’s West Ham links.

Burke is seeking an exit from his boyhood club after being informed that first-team opportunities will be limited next season due to the rise of Declan Rice and the signing of Issa Diop, while other defensive additions are also on the cards.

A move to the Championship would allow Burke to work his way into the first-team picture to help the Rams in their attempts to return to the Premier League.
