West Ham’s Declan Rice has recently posted a statement on the club’s social media channels, urging Hammers fans to stay safe and offering words of support amid the growing concerns of COVID-19.

Premier League is just one of many leagues across the world to come to an abrupt halt and there are still question marks as to when or if the 2019/20 season will commence again.

David Moyes’ side sit 16th in the Premier League – only above the relegation zone on goal difference – and faced a tough remaining nine games to maintain the club’s top-flight status.

However, football has been suspended until at least April 3, but with the threat of COVID-19 increasing every day, that date seems rather optimistic.

Should Premier League action return on that date, the Hammers’ next fixture would be a tasty clash against Chelsea at London Stadium on April 5.

Rice’s statement was addressed to the West Ham fans and urged them to stay safe. He said: “I hope you are all keeping well.

“We know times are really tough at the moment, but I just wanted to send out a quick message to say stay positive, stay healthy, keep following the government guidelines and I’m sure like me and all the rest of the team we will be out on the pitch soon making you guys happy.

“So stay safe and I’m sure we will see you soon.”

And some West Ham fans reacted in interesting fashion…
