According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United are said to be monitoring Steaua Bucuresti winger Florinel Coman.
Steaua Bucuresti’s club owner has likened the 21-year-old to PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe. Manchester City are also said to be linked with the winger, along with Italian giants Roma.
Coman has already featured eight times in the UEFA Europa League this season, scoring two goals in the competition. His domestic league is Liga 1 in Romania, where again the young winger is continuing to impress, with a goal tally of six in 11 league games.
Another accolade for the winger came in October 2019, where Coman played his first game for his senior national side against the Faroe Islands in a 3-0 win.
The young Romanian is in hot goalscoring form right now, getting a brace against Hermannstadt on 26th October.
What could this mean for West Ham?
The only naturally wide-midfielder to score in the Premier League this season is Andriy Yarmolenko, so the rumours of a prolific goalscoring winger being linked with the club might have some current players nervous.
Players such as Yarmolenko and Robert Snodgrass are both in their 30’s, meaning they might not have too long left at the highest level, whereas a hungry 21-year-old could be exactly what the Irons are craving.
Coman obviously has that attacking threat, which is something that could benefit the Hammers as well, as Manuel Pellegrini’s side have only managed to find the back of the net 12 times in their 10 Premier League games so far (WhoScored).
Massive clubs such as Manchester City and Roma also being interested, should help settle any fans nerves and reservations that they may have regarding the Romainian as it suggests he could be ready for the top level of football.
With a small TransferMarkt estimated value of £3.15m, signing the Bucuresti star comes with very little risk, although with the alleged interest in Coman, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Steaua tried to get a lot more than that.
There’s no real reason why this deal can’t happen, the biggest hurdle will be trying to shake off the larger more wealthy clubs, but there could be an argument made suggesting that they will not be able to offer him the same amount of game time he could potentially get by signing for West Ham.
This could be a big statement if the Irons can steal such a talented player from under the noses of a club like Manchester City.
Hopefully, the Hammers will be willing to back their interest and get this deal over the line as soon as possible.
