West Ham have completed a number of signings in the transfer market but look set to miss out on one reported target.

Sky Sports reports that Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson is closing in on a return to the Premier League to join newly-promoted Fulham, as he seeks an exit from south Wales following Swansea’s relegation.

West Ham, who signed Mawson’s former team-mate Lukasz Fabianski earlier this summer, have been linked with long-term interest in the 24-year-old, which stretches back to the January transfer window.

However, West Ham’s interest in Mawson cooled following the captures of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, although the injury setback sustained by Winston Reid saw his name being thrown about once again, with Sky Sports stating at the weekend the Hammers had stepped-up their pursuit again.

Fulham will reportedly pay in excess of £20m for the highly-rated centre-back, who is battling to return to fitness following knee surgery towards the end of last season.
