According to reports in Switzerland, West Ham United are the latest club to show an interest in Basel defender Manuel Akanji.
Swiss media outlet Blick is reporting that Basel defender Manuel Akanji is being chased by numerous clubs with West Ham now in the hunt to land him.
Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur have been hot on the 22-year-old’s trail and they are now joined by West Ham, Southampton and Roma for the youngster.
Liverpool have also previously been credited with an interest in the centre half.
The 4-cap Switzerland international has established himself as a regular in Basel’s side since his 2015 switch from FC Winterthur and he has Champions League experience under his belt.
West Ham have been looking at bringing in a new centre back this winter with free agent Steven Caulker reportedly offered a trial and Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson also a major target.
Basel are open to selling Akanji for the right price, provided they find a replacement.
And while German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have bid €15m, Basel are still holding out for a figure of €20m for the young defender.
Norwich City’s Timm Klose has been lined up as a potential replacement for Akanji.
