Sky Sports News pundit Paul Merson has given his predictions for the final standings in the Premier League for the 2017/18 season.

Paul Merson believes that West Ham are heading for a mid-table finish again.

He has put the Hammers down for a tenth place finish.

That would be an improvement on last season’s efforts by one place.

Giving his reasoning, Merse believes that marquee signing Javier Hernandez will now perform as well as West Ham fans might hope because he is more of an impact substitution.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson said:

“Javier Hernandez is better coming off the bench, in my opinion, and West Ham are obviously going to start him.

“He made a huge impact coming on for Manchester United.”

West Ham’s hopes of progressing higher than tenth hinge on Andy Carroll, according to Paul Merson.

Merse added:

“If they can get Andy Carroll fit and they play the big man-small man combo, it could work really well.

“You wouldn’t want to be a defender against those two.”

Paul Merson believes that Manchester City will win the league with Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal making up the rest of the top six in that order.

Merson thinks that it will be Watford, Brighton and Huddersfield getting relegated.
