Jesse Lingard may have just hinted at a possible return to West Ham via his Instagram account.

As we know, the England international was sensational for us during his six-month loan spell last season, scoring nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances to help fire the club to a first top-six finish since 1999.

It was hoped that he would return on a permanent basis in the summer but a deal never materialised, only for him to return to London Stadium with Manchester United earlier this season to score an 89th-minute winner. Obviously, he refused to celebrate, such was his respect for the fans and the club that help revive his career.

This week, there have been increased reports that contract talks with Man United have broken down and that it is looking increasingly likely that he would be leaving Old Trafford in January, sparking further reports of a potential return to east London.

And Lingard has only fueled those rumours with his latest Instagram story, where he reposted an image from West Ham’s account, which shows him celebrating a goal with his trademark hand signal during his loan spell last term…

It may not mean anything at all, but it will certainly give added juice to the rumours of a return to Hammers as well as give West Ham fans hope that they’ll be able to welcome him back to where he became something of a hero during his short stint.

Here’s hoping it’s a hint that he’s ready to reignite the love affair…
