CB – Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand was a product of the famed West Ham academy and went on to establish himself as one of the world’s best defenders whilst at Manchester United.

Ferdinand broke into the first team at the age of 18 and won ‘Hammer of the Year’ in 1999, whilst still only 19-years-old.

After more than 125 league appearances for West Ham, Rio was sold to Leeds for £18m which broke both the British transfer record and made him the world’s most expensive defender.

The rest of his career speaks for itself; he went on to win six Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League with the Red Devils as well as earning 81 England caps. Ferdinand retired last year, bringing an end to a fantastic career.
