Loyalty is something all football supporters hope their players will show their club.
West Ham supporters, like many others, love to see displays of the trait, though this time it hasn’t gone in their favour:
Nope this was the reason we didn’t get him and went for Fornals. He indicated he wanted to remain loyal to them because they supported him with some mental health issues and he enjoyed his time there https://t.co/3S9OURCdR5

It is André Gomes’ sense of loyalty to Everton which is a large contributing factor in him turning down West Ham, as has been claimed by ExWHUEmployee.
He has said that Everton had helped the player with some mental health problems, something all clubs should do with any of their players who may be struggling – though that isn’t always necessarily what happens.
West Ham fans may be disappointed at missing out on a talented player – though the signing of Pablo Fornals will have certainly eased that burden – but they can still see the good in the Portuguese midfielder’s decision.
Gomes is now close to joining Everton from Barcelona in a £22million deal, according to the Telegraph, having scored once and assisted once in 24 Premier League starts and three substitute appearances while on loan.
West Ham will now move on from the deal as they focus on bringing in other new faces, with supporters just happy to see a sense of loyalty which has become rarer in the game.
A selection of Twitter reaction to Gomes’ decision, including posts from respectful West Ham fans, can be seen below:
I can respect that. We all call for loyalty from players and he’s done just that for Everton fair play to them. Onwards and upwards

Fair play to him then

Fair play to Gomes. Football is short on loyalty and this is a nice exception.

Good for him and Everton then. It’s good to see a club take care of its players and players stay loyal. Sounds like we never really had a chance at him.

Which is fair enough in my book
