It’s difficult to think back to many individual performances on the same level of Dimitri Payet’s against Newcastle on Monday night.
The £10.7m summer signing from Marseille has been our star performer so far this term, and continued his impressive form with a brace in the 2-0 win over the Magpies.
It wasn’t just Payet’s goals that impressed, though. His skill, class, vision and work rate were absolutely out of this world, and had fans on their feet and in awe of his world class ability for the entire 90 minutes.
But there was one little thing that perhaps tarnished the Frenchman’s performance on Monday. Literally.
At the full time whistle, and as the fans began singing ‘bubbles’, Payet was being congratulated by his team mates in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the middle of the pitch.
But a stray bubble caught Payet off guard and exposed his fear of them on live TV.
