In this day and age it’s become normal for teams to pay over the odds for football players.
We see all too often, and West Ham have been guilty of such a crime on many an occasions as well.
But last summer we pulled off one of the bargains of the decade as we secured the services of Dimitri Payet for just £10.7m. How we managed it will forever remain a mystery.
Payet has been absolutely amazing for us this season, scoring six goals and assisting four in just 16 Premier League outings. The impact he has on games is breathtaking and the rest of the team play far better when’s on the field. Not bad for a mere £10.7m, eh?
Meanwhile, Liverpool stumped up £29m for Brazil international Roberto Firmino in the summer. At first it looked as if it may prove to be a good bit of business by Liverpool’s infamous transfer committee.
But not when you see fantasy football game www.oulala.com‘s infographic below, which shows just how they overpaid for Firmino when they could’ve had signed a far better and more consistent performer like Payet for almost half the third of the price.
Payet outperforms Firmino in every single department this season, with only being matched by assists – but Payet did spend two months sidelined through injury.
He’s played four less games than the Liverpool star, yet he has still created more chances, scored more goals, has a higher pass completion rate, better shot accuracy and completes more successful passes per game.
Kind of puts Liverpool’s transfer policy to shame a little, doesn’t it?
