According to The Athletic, West Ham made a move to sign Chelsea outcast Emerson Palmieri.
It’s claimed the Hammers put £13m on the table to begin with as the Blues seek a permanent deal for the Italy international, with him being viewed as surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
David Moyes has been in the market for a left-back all summer, with Aaron Cresswell his only senior player in that position following the departure of Arthur Masuaku to Besiktas on loan.
With four competitions to compete in this season, Moyes is going to need more than one 32-year-old left-back available to him, so signing one with Premier League and European experience certainly seems like a sensible move.
Emerson has struggled to nail down a regular spot in west London since his arrival from Roma in 2018, making just 71 appearances in all competitions since then.
The 28-year-old spent last season on-loan at Lyon and played every minute of both legs as West Ham thrashed the Ligue 1 outfit 4-1 on aggregate in the Europa League quarter-finals.
It is not yet known whether Chelsea are willing to accept West Ham’s £13m bid for the Brazilian-born left-back but with Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso ahead of him in the pecking order, it’s clear Blues boss Thomas Tuchel does not have in his immediate plans.
Nottingham Forest are also said to be interested but, currently it is only West Ham who have reportedly made an official offer for his services.
