West Ham are interested in signing Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, according to a new transfer rumour that has emerged.

The Hammers could look to make new signings in the January transfer window, with this season a hit-and-miss one so far in the Premier League.

Some fresh faces could give David Moyes’ squad an extra lease of life, both in terms of depth and quality, and it looks as though they are eyeing the signing of an English player with plenty of top-flight experience.

According to talkSPORT, West Ham are keen on snapping up Saints star Walker-Peters next month, with a bid possibly being accepted because his contract expires in the summer of 2025:

“West Ham are keeping tabs on Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters. The Hammers are looking to sign a full-back to provide competition for Vladimir Coufal and Emerson Palmieri and the beauty with Walker-Peters is that he can play either on the right or the left.

“The former Tottenham star was expected to leave Southampton in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League but offers for his services were surprisingly sparse.”

Walker-Peters may be playing in the Championship at the moment, which may put some West Ham fans off the idea of him joining, but he could be a shrewd signing.

Still only 26 years of age, the Englishman is having an impressive season for Southampton, scoring and assisting twice apiece in 21 league appearances, as well as completing 90.9% of his passes.

While Saints may not like the idea of losing one of their best players midway through a potential promotion-winning season, they could find it hard to say no to a big offer, given his aforementioned contract situation.

Granted, he will still have a year left on his deal at the end of the current campaign, but his price tag could still have dropped in that time, so West Ham could have some hope of snapping him up in January.

He would provide good competition for places at full-back, especially as he can impress at both right-back and left-back, so the Hammers should look to get a deal over the line.
