West Ham are contemplating tabling an offer for Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to an exciting new update.

The Hammers have assembled one of their strongest squads in years, using the Declan Rice money wisely and making some key signings during the summer transfer window.

In midfield, for example, David Moyes has acquired the signatures of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, both of whom have shone this season in the middle of the park, alongside the superb Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham should always be looking to improve even further, however, having as much depth as possible, and it looks as though they are trying to complete an audacious piece of business.

According to a report from Spain, the east Londoners are considering making a bid for Goretzka, in what is described as a potential “bombshell” transfer.

West Ham are believed to be happy to pay £43.7m for the 28-year-old, who isn’t out of contract at Bayern until the summer of 2026.

It is claimed that the Bundesliga giants are already looking for potential replacements for Goretzka, who has started eight league games this season, scoring twice and chipping in with one assist.

The Bayern ace could be a real statement signing by West Ham, should they get a deal over the line in 2024, although it clearly won’t be easy to make it happen.

Goretzka could have plenty of other suitors if his time at Bayern does come to an end – those who can potentially offer him Champions League football – so the Hammers will have to work some magic to snap him up.

He is someone with undoubted pedigree in the game, though, having won five Bundesliga titles and a Champions League crown, and his all-round box-to-box quality in midfield could make Moyes’ men an even tougher proposition.

The fact that West Ham are even seemingly in the mix to sign players of Goretzka’s quality says so much about the strides they have made in recent years, but for these players to stay on their radar, a little more consistency needs to be found in the Premier League this season.
