The club put on a special Q+A evening at the Boleyn Ground last night to give a select number of season ticket holders the opportunity to grill Sam Allardyce, Kevin Nolan and David Gold about current affairs surrounding the club.

Of course, each of them were quizzed about club’s current position in the Premier League and whether we have what it takes to pull ourselves away from the relegation places, while David Gold and Sam Allardyce were specifically asked about what happened in the summer transfer window.

Our man Brad Pinard had the pleasure of being there and hearing what they had to say first hand. So in part two of three, here are Kevin Nolan’s best comments from the evening…

Kevin Nolan…

…on the season so far and chances of improvement

“No matter what, we still believe in what we’ve got to do, and what we’re doing on the training ground will come in to fruition throughout the season. It hasn’t been easy this season, we can’t shy away from that. We haven’t yet hit the heights or the form that we had in the first part of last season.

“We’re just continuing to stick together. The boys have been really supportive of each other, even through bad times. And this is when I sort of realise when you have a good team or not. When you’re doing well it’s much easier to come in and do the things that are right, but when things start going a bit wrong and everything starts getting sour, you start getting a reaction from the boys.

“The injuries have hit us hard, as well as some of the refereeing decisions that have gone against us. But I’m glad to be able to lead such a  good, strong group of lads and hopefully, come the end of the season, you will see what we’re all about and where we feel we belong, which is securely in the Premier League.”

…on his red card at Liverpool and recent performances

“Personally I am really disappointed in myself and I am sorry for that. I’m still waiting for the fine to come through the post, so I’m not getting away with it if that’s what you think.”

“I’ll be doing a lot of finishing work in training and I’ll be working hard on the training ground, no doubt about that. Hopefully the lads can still put some results together in the coming weeks and then I can come back, add a few goals and have a few better performances than what I have shown in the first games.”

Considering his lack of contribution so far this season, there really wasn’t much else to add from Nolan. Let’s hope he can fulfill his aim of getting on the scoresheet again when he returns from suspension, though.

  1. Sounds like a complete wash over to me. Questions seem weak and answers bullshit. Gold: why did you feed us all that nonesense during the summer about wage limits etc? Will you make the same mistake with Allerdici as you did with Grant or sack him if results don’t come. Allerdyce: why have you never accepted any blame for any poor performance (its always referees, injuries, bad luck but never youand your decisions. Why do you insist on playing Nolan when his stats just dont add up. Why have you not come out and said Nolan was at fault for their goal against Crystal Palace and for the first goal against Liverpool. Nolan: do you realise you have the worst stats of tackles made, passes made and ball given away. If you are such a good motivational captain how come our away performances were so bad last year and at Crystal Palace and Liverpool this year we fell away badly second half. These guys earn enormous wages and need to be told they are shit when clearly they are. Think season ticket holders meeting did us a disservice as you wimped out.
