West Ham face a daunting task this weekend in the shape of a huge relegation battle with Swansea City.

The Hammers enter the match on the back of five consecutive Premier League defeats and another loss would spark major concerns regarding their status in the top-flight.

With a five point advantage, this weekend’s clash will have a major impact at the bottom of the table as victory would give the Hammers a eight-point cushion over the relegation zone.

Defeat, meanwhile, would cut the Hammers’ advantage to just two points butĀ Sky SportsĀ pundit Paul Merson isn’t predicting a victory for either side.

“What a massive, massive game this is. If Swansea win it could bring West Ham right back into the relegation battle. It’s must-win for West Ham, and if they can that should see them safe, but it would put Swansea into massive trouble.”

“It could be a nervy one, but I think it will be a draw.”

Merson’s predicted 1-1 scoreline wouldn’t help either side but it would end the rot for West Ham and may provide the start of improve form, as the Hammers face a favourable tie next weekend against rock-bottom Sunderland.
