With Lukasz Fabianski out injured for 2-3 months, as reported by ExWHUEmployee, Roberto is now likely to be in goal for West Ham during that time.
The 33-year-old has played both of the Hammers’ Carabao Cup matches, while he also replaced Fabianski when the Poland international came off against AFC Bournemouth, as per Transfermarkt.
So when it was confirmed Fabianski would be out for an extended period, it became apparent the Spaniard will likely be replacing him:
The reports on Fabianski are true. Now the club often do air on the side of caution so it could be less time but 2-3 months is the current estimation

There are many fans who have been far from happy about this, mostly due to his performance against Oxford United, in which he let in some of the four goals without seeming to make much effort to stop them, as shown in the highlights video on the Sky Sports Football YouTube channel.
However, many other fans are putting this to the side, calling for the goalkeeper to be wholeheartedly backed by West Ham supporters.
One fan has drawn comparisons to Darren Randolph, while another has claimed that Roberto isn’t a bad goalkeeper, but has just been made to look it because Fabianski is so good.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the update can be seen below:
I was awaiting this tweet in the hope that others had it wrong. Feel for him, in the form of his life, and now he’s got to sit it out. Speedy recovery Fab Now time to stop the hating towards Roberto, let’s all get behind him #coyi

I remember when adrian was sent off agaisnt Leicester and all of us panicked that Randolph would come in as he had performed poorly in europa and pre season but he went on to be very solid including keeping a clean sheet when we won at anfield! Come on Roberto

Our fan base needs to relax & get behind Roberto, being negative towards him will ruin his confidence & make things worse.
He was signed for a reason when plenty other free goalkeepers so someone at the club must have seen something in him they liked…

If it’s 2 months then it’s only 6 games off which 4 are at home. Trying to be the optimist let’s get behind Roberto pls

It ain’t that Roberto’s that bad its just that Fabianski is that good. We’ll be alright
