Modibo Maiga believes he is becoming more confident with his role as a lone striker and has no doubt the goals will start flowing soon.

The 26-year-old Malian is yet to score for the Hammers this season and has been under pressure to fill in the void left by the injured Andy Carroll.

But Maiga believes his performance against Cardiff City on Tuesday night showed that he is improving and insists he is working hard to do what’s best for the team.

He told whufc.com: “I felt a lot better against Cardiff. I had a lot of ball and if you’re getting more touches, that makes it so much more enjoyable. I felt really good out there.

“Games like this give me confidence. The little things that are missing right now, I hope are going to come together. I’m managing as best I can to adapt and I’ll get my rewards.

“Even if they haven’t come just yet, but that doesn’t worry me, I know it’s coming. Perhaps my decision making in front of goal has not been quite there, but I’m confident it will turn.”

And now the forward has his sights set on Saturday’s Premier League trip to Hull City and explained how the players are working hard to improve their league form.

“Saturday’s very important, as are all Premier League games,” he said.

“Even if we think that we’re going to have to produce an even better performance at Hull, we’ll get straight on it, working on how we can improve.”
