Matt Jarvis has his sights firmly set on Sunday’s Premier League trip to Southampton and admits the players are confident of getting a positive result.
The Hammers battled out a 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s last term with Andy Carroll‘s superb free-kick cancelling out Gaston Ramirez’s opener.
But Jarvis believes the squad are fully prepared for another close battle on the south coast and are capable of coming away with all three points.
He told whufc.com: “They are a good team and pass the ball well, be we are in a confident mood.
“We were very disappointed in losing to Stoke in our last game, a result I think was a blip for us but something we want to get out of the system.
“We enjoyed a good point here at St. Mary’s last season and then beat them at home, so we know what we can do, we will go there to get a result, which will see us back on track.”
The former Wolves winger also paid tribute to the capture of free-agent Mladen Petric and admits the players’ frustration at Andy Carroll’s latest injury setback.
“Mladen is a good addition to the squad and that is what it is about, having a squad,” he continued.
“When you have injuries and everything, others have to step up and play their part.
“For Andy, it is frustrating as you are working so hard to get over an injury and sometimes there are other niggles and things you pick up whilst you are doing this. Andy is a strong character and will continue to work as hard as he has been doing already to be back as soon as.”
