Another good result on Sunday for the Hammers, when you’re slightly disappointed about a draw at Old Trafford it shows how far we have come.
I can’t wait for the replay at the Boleyn, it will be a truly special night.
This article is about our skipper though, Mark Noble and why he should be in the England squad for the Euros this summer.
After Payet, I would have Noble as Hammer of the Year, he has really stepped up and is relishing the captaincy. With West Ham having such a great season, fifth in the league and in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, can Hodgson really keep overlooking our players?
You look at other options who could play centre midfield: Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Jack Wilshere. All have under-performed or are always injured this season. When Hodgson took the England job he said he would pick players on form but, if that was the case, there would be no question about Noble’s inclusion.
He was brilliant against Spurs duo Ryan Mason and Eric Dier a couple of weeks ago, who have both had recent call ups.
In fact, here is a list of some of the English centre midfielders who have had call ups since Hodgson has been in charge: Tom Huddlestone, Jack Rodwell, Tom Cleverley, Jake Livermore, Ryan Mason, Leon Osman, Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Colback
As a big West Ham and Noble fan, I find that almost insulting. You look at the names above and to see that Noble has been behind those in the pecking order, it’s almost beyond belief.
Looking at some of the stats from this season comparing Noble to other English players in his position and he tops the lot, when compared to Carrick, Henderson, Milner, Delph and Dier. Chances created, successful passes, tackles won and pass completion!
Here is what some ex-players and current manager Slaven Blic have said about a potential Noble call up..
Slaven Bilic: “I have a right to say my opinion and I don’t understand why Mark Noble is not in the England team. Tackling-wise, running-wise, fitness-wise, skill, most of all skill-wise he is one of the top midfielders of the season.”
Paul Merson: “I believe 100 per cent he should be in the England squad, How he is not in there is beyond me. I don’t see enough midfield players who have performed better than him.”
John Hartson: “Mark Noble is having the season of his life, whenever I have seen him play he has been fantastic. Who else is there? Henderson has more experience, but yes Noble deserves a chance for England.”
And there is plenty more, Paul Ince, Robbie Savage, even Alan Shearer questioned Roy Hodgson on Match of the Day about Noble getting a call up.
I really hope for Noble that he gets the chance which he fully deserves.
