We all saw that Vine of Andy Carroll leaving St. Mary’s on crutches the other night and feared the worst.
And the worst has been confirmed today as the club announced Andy Carroll has to have surgery on a knee injury, which subsequently rules him out for the rest of the season. Again.
It’s a tragic state of affairs for Carroll after initially looking like he’d overcome all his previous injury problems and was beginning to return to his best by scoring important goals. It did look like we were finally getting our money’s worth with him. But clearly not.
Luckily we have the exciting partnership of Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia to fall back on and look forward to, but it’s now more important that they both stay fit between now and the end of the season.
But it’s the whole Andy Carroll thing that has got fans pretty frustrated. Surely this has to be the last straw for Carroll’s West Ham career? It’s sad becuase we all know he’s a quality striker when he’s fit and at his best, but who’s going to buy him off us when it’s clear he struggles to remain fit.
Here’s some of the fan reaction after the news was broken this afternoon…

We shouldn't play Carroll for the rest of the season. Let him rest and get a full pre season under his belt

I'm fed up. I know it's not his fault but it's time to get rid of him. £70,000 per week is a joke.
