West Ham fans will certainly remember the name of Portugal midfielder William Carvalho, after the embarrassing pursuit a year ago.
The Hammers locked horns with Sporting Lisbon in the transfer market, with a failed pursuit leading to a war of words between the two clubs, although the relationship has now been repaired.
West Ham continue to see their name linked with a move for Carvalho in the summer transfer window but competition for the Euro 2016 winner is fierce.
TalkSport, citing Portuguese outlet A Bola, state Everton and Monaco are in the running for the 26-year-old, while the Hammers have cooled their interest.
New boss Manuel Pellegrini is reported to be in the market for midfield improvements though and Carvalho, reportedly available for around £25m, could be a top target.
However, Ligue 1 giants Monaco have cash to spend following the sale of Fabinho to Liverpool and Everton are also keen to improve their ranks after a difficult season.
