The club have confirmed the departure of Kevin Nolan this morning after just over four seasons with the club.
The club’s skipper was expected to leave the club after the arrival of Slaven Bilic, but still managed to make five appearances under the Croat, which sparked rumours that he was still very much involved in first team plans.
But after rumours last night went in to overdrive, the club moved to confirm the news that he’d be released.
Nolan’s West Ham career started in brilliant fashion as he scored 13 goals in our promotion season, and then followed that up with 10 goals in our first season back in the Premier League.
Kevin Nolan’s West Ham Career
But as he got older and the team began to improve, his performances understandably started to decline, culminated in fans aiming a barrage of abuse towards him almost every week last season.
He was made the scape goat several times but his leadership skills both and off the pitch were second to none, and most fans will agree with the fact he was one of the best captains we’ve had in years.
However, given the abuse Nolan got from fans last season I half expected a timeline of cheers and celebration following his departure.
But it was quite the opposite, with fans recognising Nolan’s efforts over the last few years and wishing him all the best for the future.
Here’s just a handful of tweets following the club’s announcement…

He brought everyone & everything together when morale & confidence was at an all time low. Looked after players off the pitch as well.

All the best to Kevin Nolan. The stick you got wasn't deserved! Scored some very important goals for us. Let's not forget that!
