The Ravelation!

Tottenham away. There are no words that could inspire a Hammers fan to pull on the famous Claret & Blue jersey more than this.

The passion evoked each time both sets of players step out onto the respective green turf is far superior to any other. Rightly so, too! With 11 goals from the last five outings between the two sides, goals are more of an inevitability as opposed to a possibility.

However, what coincides with this statistic is not quite as appealing to the Irons, as it’s seen us pick up just a single point from a possible 15 against Spurs. But, these are just a few numbers in my eyes and all that truly matters is what happens at White Harte Lane on Sunday.

Obviously Sunday’s game will be a massive test for the Hammers as we face a side full of confidence sitting comfortably in third in the 2013/14 Premier league table. This is a game where both teams have star names within their ranks. However, it is not the big name players that I believe will decide the big London clash on Sunday.

For I believe that West Ham United have a very valuable card of which can be used in the tie. This is, of course, Ravel Morrison or, ‘The Ravelation’.

The 20-year-old has made some impressive inroads at the start of this campaign, which has seen him net three goals in five starts for the club, and has earned him a call up to the England Under-21 squad. He will be full of confidence going into this game and I think he will be determined to prove why he is constantly branded as one of the brightest prospects in the game!

Since the campaign began, however, Big Sam has been placed under a lot of pressure from the West Ham faithful over his defensive team selections and tactics.

And this statement has made me ponder as to whether Big Sam has actually been quite intelligent in his decisions. Without a main striker we (unfortunately) were likely to be short of goals at the start of the campaign, as a result of Andy Carroll‘s ballerina inspired injury that could see him out until Christmas. And so with Modibo Maiga being in a particular bad patch of form, Mladen Petrić was promptly brought in without having much time to get used to the new style of football, and thus is likely to be ineffective for a little while.

Therefore, I believe that Big Sam’s theory was to prevent conceding goals and be more solid at the back so that we protect ourselves until Andy Carroll returns, in which case I believe we will see a change in tactics and, preceding that, a flurry of goals and a return to intelligent attacking football.

So it’s inevitable that there will be more backs to the walls performances but, I feel it is important that we as Hammers fans get behind our team and manager alike and battle through the tough times and have our own triumph over adversity, and what better time and place to do it than, Tottenham away!
