West Ham continue to eye recruits to bolster their defensive line but a stern battle could be on the cards for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

The Daily Mail states newly-promoted Wolves have joined the chase for long-term Hammers target Alfie Mawson, who has been pursued since the January transfer window.

West Ham are currently deciding on which defensive target to move for, with a deal for Barcelona’s Marlon Santos also on the cards, but any further delay could see them miss out entirely.

Speculation has suggested that Pellegrini is ready to pull the plug on the pursuit of Mawson following the signing of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as he is not keen on signing two players from the same relegated side.

That would provide encouragement for Wolves to make a move in the market for Mawson, who is valued highly by Swansea and looks likely to return to Premier League football before the transfer window comes to a close.
