Which of these five ‘keepers should West Ham target this summer?

Jussi Jaaskelainen has been a superb servant to the club but his time at West Ham looks to have expired.

With his contract up in the summer and having just turned 40, we seem certain to part ways with the Finnish goalkeeper, creating a vacancy for a new signing to fill.

Raphael Spiegel has also failed to fulfil his potential and may also be shifted leaving Adrian and Sam Howes as the only two goalkeepers on our books. Howes will probably seek a loan move to a lower league club and therefore we must find an understudy for Adrian.

So here are five goalkeepers we should consider signing this summer…

Mathew Ryan

Mat Ryan’s stock has risen in recent years and he is now considered hot property.

At just 23 years of age, he has nailed down a regular starting spot in goal for Australia thanks to his impressive displays for Club Brugge.

Despite standing at less than 6 foot tall, Ryan is a confident and capable goalkeeper who would genuinely threaten Adrian’s starting spot if we managed to sign him.

Unfortunately, with Liverpool also loitering and a likely asking price between £6m and £8m, a move remains unlikely but he is definitely someone to keep in mind.

Przemyslaw Tyton

Polish ‘keeper Tyton is currently on loan at Elche, and with parent club PSV apparently not interested in keeping him on, West Ham could consider a swoop.

28-year-old Tyton would provide experience and some genuine, healthy competition with Adrian.

Stood at 6’5’’, the Poland international is a daunting figure between the posts. Tyton is perhaps best known for replacing Szczesny at Euro 2012 – after the Arsenal player was red-carded – and saving a penalty with his first action.

Emiliano Viviano

29-year-old Emiliano Viviano has reportedly been looked at by West Ham scouts as we consider whether or not to make a move for the Italian.

Viviano was on loan at Arsenal last season but failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Gunners.

Sampdoria have the option of making the 6’5’’ goalkeeper’s loan move permanent from Palermo but West Ham could enter the race for him should the price be reasonable enough.

Viviano would probably start as Adrian’s assistant but hopefully provide competition for the number 1 spot.

Loris Karius

Recent rumours have suggested that Loris Karius has been tickling the fancy of various West Ham scouts.

The 21-year-old Mainz goalkeeper has demonstrated his abilities in the Bundesliga this season and West Ham are hoping to beat Arsenal to his signature.

The former Manchester City youth product fits the bill of a young player to be Adrian’s understudy and hopefully one day Karius will become good enough to replace the Spaniard.

Daniel Bentley

Southend will have a job on their hands to retain the services of 21-year-old Daniel Bentley this summer.

West Ham appear to be leading the chase for the youngster, whose performances have been of the highest standard this season.

Bentley has remarkably not conceded a goal at home since October and his impressive performances have attracted the attentions of many Premier League and Championship clubs, as well as placing him in contention for an England under-21 call-up.

The 6’5’’ stopper was born and raised in Basildon and may be tempted by a move to West Ham in order to stay closer to home. He would provide good cover for Adrian and will probably be pushing for a starting spot within a year, should we manage to sign him in the next transfer window.
