Rewind all the way back to last May.
We’ve parted ways with Sam Allardyce and have begun an ambitious search for a new manager who is capable of successfully guiding us in to a new era.
The media are fuming, they’re saying we’ve made a huge mistake and that we should ‘be careful what we wish for.’ Fans of other clubs tip us to be relegated because ‘Sam Allardyce guarantees you Premier League safety.’
Slaven Bilic is hired and of course, people then claim taking a gamble on an untested manager in the Premier League instead of keeping on a tried and tested ‘safety boss’ could spell the end of our top-flight status.
Then this season happens.
Eleven months on, we’re yet to lose to any of the big teams in the Premier League, have gone 15 home games unbeaten in the league and have only lost six league games. We’re genuine top four contenders. We’re an absolute joy to watch. We’ve got Dimitri Payet.

It has been an incredible season, one that was beyond our wildest dreams just 12 months ago. But we’re living the dream now, and we can still only get better.
We’ve proved everyone wrong, and the below infographic proves it. It doesn’t compare stats between Bilic and Allardyce – that would be too easy – but instead it shows the spread of final league positions in the Premier League.
With four games left to play, little ol’ West Ham – who were tipped to struggle with a manager who was also tipped to be the first boss to get the sack this term – can still mathematically finish 2nd in the Premier League. SECOND.
And we’re already guaranteed a top ten finish. So I guess we shouldn’t be careful what we wish for after all…
