So despite rumours this evening suggesting we’ve approached Derby County about Steve McClaren, it’s Rafa Benitez who remains the favourite to replace Sam Allardyce.

Reports say the Spaniard is close to renewing his contract at Napoli this summer, but there are others who claim he is waiting to find out whether we definitely have secured a place in next year’s Europa League via the Fair Play League.

If we do get it, then there remains a serious possibility of us managing to tempt Benitez back to England and the Premier League, which everyone knows is where he loves to be.

The bookies still have him as the favourite to replace Allardyce, despite the McClaren rumours picking up pace tonight, which can only be a good sign…

So all hope is not lost just yet. It’s no secret that Benitez would be the ideal manager for us if we were to get in to Europe as well heading in to the Olympic Stadium, which is where we’re all expecting the club to finally make that big step up and start competing in the top six, along with winning trophies.

Benitez knows exactly how to do that, so hopefully we can still tempt him to East London this summer.

And he’d also attract some top class players to the club. Who do you think we should sign in order to strengthen the side?
