It’s fair to say we’re all pretty devastated that Dimitri Payet has been sidelined for up to three months with an ankle injury.

Before James McCarthy’s barbarism robbed us of our most exciting player we were all pretty excited about having a player of Payet’s class wearing the famous claret and blue.

He’s been sensational for us up to now and was the driving force behind our attacking threat for the opening 11 games of the season. Before limped off against Everton he was having another superb game, which makes it even more frustrating.

And the Frenchman has taken to Instagram to address the fans who have wished him a speedy recovery since the seriousness of his injury was revealed on Monday, and has vowed to recover and return stronger than ever. He also uploaded a video of McCarthy’s tackle, seemingly to hammer home McCarthy’s malicious attempt to take Payet out of the game.

It’s such a shame a footballer feels the need to go out and deliberately injure a fellow professional, but unfortunately there’s nothing anyone can do about it now.

But Payet’s in good spirits and already on the road to recovery…
