According to various media reports, West Ham United are trying hard to sign William Carvalho.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is a major target for West Ham, who are seeking to bolster their central midfield options.

Sky Sports News are reporting that the Hammers are locked in talks as they try to push this deal through.

The Portugal international has a £40m release clause in his deal but the Hammers are hopeful that they can sign him for less than that.

The Daily Mail has also picked up on this story and they are reporting that West Ham have submitted a £27m bid for Carvalho.

However, Sporting Lisbon are holding out for a fee closer to his £39m release clause.

Meanwhile, sports journalist Duncan Castles – who works for the Sunday Times – is reporting that West Ham have offered €30m up front with €10m in “variables” while Sporting Lisbon want €40m.

Castles adds that Carvalho wants to move to West Ham.

The 25-year-old, who plays as a holding midfielder, has played 137 games for Sporting Lisbon but could be on his way to West Ham this summer.

All media outlets are suggesting that William Carvalho wants to secure a move to West Ham.
