West Ham are taking a keen interest in striker Pape Moussa Fall, according to reports coming out of France.
The Hammers are expected to undergo a major squad overhaul this summer, regardless of what league they’re competing in.
Annual accounts released by the club earlier this year explained that player sales during the summer transfer window will be essential to ensure the books are balanced.
Indeed, relegation from the Premier League will add further pressure to boost income and cut costs.
But West Ham still need to replace any players who are sold, and they’re already scouring the market for bargain options.
And RAAL La Louviere striker, Fall, is reportedly on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer.
West Ham want Fall
The 21-year-old striker has impressed in the Belgian Pro League while on loan from Metz, where he has scored nine goals and assisted one in 26 league outings.
According to L’Equipe, there is considerable interest in the striker from several clubs across Europe, including West Ham and Crystal Palace.
It’s claimed the Senegalese striker’s signature could be secured for as little as £5.1m, which will likely be well within West Ham’s budget.
Interest from other clubs, though, including Crystal Palace, makes a lot less likely that the Hammers will be able to get a deal done, especially if they’re in the Championship.
Indeed, Fall’s inexperience also makes him a considerably risky signing for any club.
Not least West Ham, who have struggled to successfully sign a prolific and effective striker for decades.
Add to that the issues surrounding relegation and the risks with Fall increase. If relegation is confirmed then it’s imperative they bounce straight back at the first time of asking, meaning recruitment will need to be bang on.
It’s a similar story if Premier League survival is achieved. The club cannot afford to find themselves in another relegation battle next season and, with several key players expected to leave regardless, recruiting the right players to replace those departing will be crucial.
Indeed, Fall could end up being a bargain in either division, but it’s still a risk West Ham probably can’t afford to take at this moment in time.
