Midfielder Jack Wilshere wants to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place in the team, according to The Telegraph.

Jack Wilshere is a reported target for West Ham United.

The Hammers are currently light in central midfield.

Ahead of the opening game of the season against Manchester United, the only two confirmed fit and available players are Pedro Obiang and Edimilson Fernandes.

Havard Nordtveit was sold to Hoffenheim, Josh Cullen was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers and Cheikhou Kouyate and Mark Noble are both injury doubts.

Given this situation, it was thought that perhaps West Ham might make a swoop for Jack Wilshere, who is out of favour at Arsenal and a boyhood West Ham fan.

The injury-prone midfielder is undoubtedly talented when fit but has spent plenty of time on the sidelines in the past few years.

The England international was on loan at Bournemouth last season, where he put in some good shifts before his season was once again ended prematurely by injury.

Serie A outfit Sampdoria are also interested but Wilshere wants to stay at Arsenal, according to this report.

The 25-year-old is hoping to impress Arsene Wenger in the League Cup and Europa League games to earn his way back into the first team in North London.
