West Ham’s goalkeeper search has taken another turn — and it looks like Graham Potter has made his move.

With Łukasz Fabiański now officially gone and Alphonse Areola making far too many costly errors last season to be trusted as a long-term No.1, the need for a fresh face between the sticks has become urgent.

The hunt has been well underway, with names like Zion Suzuki of Parma, Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper, and Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen all being actively monitored.

But now, a surprise name has entered the frame — and West Ham have already launched a formal offer.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, West Ham have submitted a £7 million bid to Botafogo for Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor.

The 29-year-old has also been attracting interest from Everton and Galatasaray, while Manchester United have been tracking him over recent months as well.

Described as a “warrior” by Botafogo teammate Philipe Sampaio, Victor has been a rock at the back for the Brazilian giants over the past two seasons, making 83 appearances and keeping an impressive 36 clean sheets.

His form helped lead Botafogo to a dominant 2024 campaign, winning the Série A title, Copa Libertadores, and Taça Rio — and he also stood out at the 2025 Club World Cup, playing a key role in a shock win over European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

A move to Europe now looks increasingly likely — and with West Ham’s bid on the table, Potter could be closing in on the No.1 he needs.
