With the end of the season now upon us, and the transfer window opening earlier than many are used to, rumours are already in full swing.
West Ham are one of many sides who need to complete plenty of business in the months ahead as they seek to rebuild after another disappointing campaign at the London Stadium.
Defence is like to be an area of focus for the next Hammers’ boss and it could see the club renew interest in a player they first eyed in January.
According to The Sun on Sunday (20/05, page 67), West Ham and Southampton lead the chase for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson.
The Hammers first eyed the 24-year-old defender back in January, though Swansea made it clear they wouldn’t sell to a relegation rival, but the drop of the Welsh side to the Championship has put a transfer on the cards.
Rated at £25m, Mawson has no shortage of suitors as Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be monitoring the situation and the offer of Champions League football could be difficult for West Ham to compete with.
