West Ham are edging closer to signing Jefferson Montero from Mexican side Morelia, according to the Guardian.

The 23-year-old Ecuadorian winger has a £3million release clause and it is thought the Hammers are prepared to trigger that clause in the coming days.

It is believed Montero will accept a four-year contract worth £30,000-a-week and will add further crossing options for new club-record signing Andy Carroll.

Everton are also believed to be interested, with new boss Roberto Martinez keen to finally capture the player he had his eye on last season as Wigan Athletic boss, but West Ham are confident they can tie up a deal for the Ecuador international.
