West Ham see opening offer for Diego Laxalt rejected

West Ham are set to continue their spending spree under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini, with further defensive additions targeted.

The Hammers have already bolstered their back-line with the additions of Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski but are now reportedly keen on signing a left-sided defender.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb states Genoa have rejected an offer of around €12m from the Hammers for the services of Uruguay international Diego Laxalt, as they seek €18m for the versatile ace.

Capable of playing at full-back or further forward, Laxalt caught the eye with his performances for La Celeste at the World Cup as they advanced to the quarter-finals in Russia.

West Ham are not alone with their interest in the 25-year-old, with Premier League rivals Everton also said to be eyeing a move, but the Hammers have attempted to steal a march on the Toffees.

However, West Ham will have to raise their offer if a deal is to be concluded.
