The 2016/17 season has now ended and West Ham United ended up in a relatively respectable 11th place.

Given our struggles this season with adjusting to the London Stadium, caving in during games, suffering many injuries and failing to sign the right players, 11th place is not too bad.

But going into next season, we are still searching for the same thing we were looking for this time last year.

We need to sign a striker who can regularly stay fit and put the ball in the net.

This has become a real recurring problem for the Hammers and our failure to land a top striker has held us back from climbing the table.

With this being said, here we will rate the six strikers used by the Irons this season by judging them out of ten based on their performances in claret and blue…

Andre Ayew – 6

West Ham’s big money signing last summer was Andre Ayew but his year has been hampered with injuries.

However, the Ghana international has showed that he can score goals, netting six goals since Christmas as his form improved.

Jonathan Calleri – 4

Jonathan Calleri was used sparingly until a late injury crisis saw him become a regular starter towards the end of the season.

The Argentinian striker tries hard but the simply fact is he just can’t score (he only grabbed one deflected goal against Middlesbrough) and he will return to his parent club without making an impact at West Ham.

Andy Carroll – 7

It is quite incredible how much better West Ham are when Andy Carroll is fully fit and firing.

The big man notched seven goals in nineteen games – including an overhead kick which is a Premier League goal of the season contender – but he is too injury-prone and unreliable.

Ashley Fletcher – 5

Ashley Fletcher should perhaps have been given more chances this season, especially when Jonathan Calleri was playing up front.

The 21-year-old is tall, quick and strong but needs regular game time to aid his development.

Diafra Sakho – 3

Diafra Sakho only managed to get on the pitch four times this season, scoring once.

The troubled striker has a terrible attitude and an abysmal track record of various injuries so he could well be flogged in the summer.

Simone Zaza – 1

Many West Ham fans thought that Simone Zaza could be the answer to our striker woes when he joined on loan from Juventus.

The Italy international did a lot of running and not much else, proving to be one of the biggest flops of the season and his loan spell was cut short in January without scoring a single goal in claret and blue.
