The 2016/17 Premier League season is officially over and West Ham United have claimed an 11th place finish.

Considering the struggles this season with injuries, the departure of Dimitri Payet, the poor transfer window last summer and the London Stadium move, there cannot be too many qualms about finishing in 11th, just one point below 8th.

A 2-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on the final day was a positive end to a turbulent season and now West Ham fans will be looking ahead to the next campaign.

A positive summer transfer window would really boost this squad and help us compete for silverware next season.

But now it is time to look back at this season and review the squad.

Here we look back at how our goalkeepers and defenders performed over the course of the season.

We have given them a rating out of 10 based on their displays in Claret and Blue.

Despite making some first team appearances this season, Reece Burke, Reece Oxford and Declan Rice have been left out because it is hard to judge them on such little game time…

Adrian – 6

The Spaniard has had a few shaky moments between the sticks this season but has been largely solid.

We certainly looked much better when Adrian replaced Randolph towards the end of the season and the fans’ favourite did earn a new contract and his first Spain call-up.

Darren Randolph – 4

After a few poor displays from Adrian, Darren Randolph was installed as the new first choice goalkeeper and he has made a few decent saves this season.

But overall the Republic of Ireland international has been poor and his errors have cost us a number of points.

Alvaro Arbeloa – 2

Much was expected from the World Cup, European Championships and Champions League winner but he was a major disappointment.

Many thought that the Spaniard would solve the right back problem but he was so poor that Bilic preferred to play midfielders out of position in that role instead.

Sam Byram – 6

If it wasn’t for injuries, Sam Byram could have developed into a top right-back by now.

The 23-year-old has had good games and bad games and West Ham fans will be hoping that the best is yet to come.

James Collins – 7

Although he is arguably the fourth choice centre back when everyone is fit, Collins has been as reliable as ever when called upon this season.

Despite the odd hairy moment, the Wales international has produced some inspired defensive displays to keep other sides at bay.

Aaron Cresswell – 6

By his own high standards, it has been a poor season for Aaron Cresswell despite his first England call-up.

The 27-year-old has not been the same since he came back from a long-term injury and West Ham fans will be hoping that a summer break can get him back to his best for next year.

Jose Fonte – 5

West Ham fans thought Jose Fonte was the answer to all their problems when he joined from Southampton in January.

However, the experienced Portugal international was at fault for a number of goals early in his West Ham career although he has looked more solid in recent weeks since our shift to a back three.

Arthur Masuaku – 7

Arthur Masuaku is another player who has had an injury-hit season, which has held him back.

When fit, he is probably first choice left back over Aaron Cresswell now and the Frenchman has shown pace, strength and the ability to defend and get forward.

Angelo Ogbonna – 7

Angelo Ogbonna has been an absolute warrior this season, playing on despite carrying an injury and then making a return on the final day when the medical team expected him to be out much longer.

The Italian centre half is one of our better players and is a fairly consistent performer.

Winston Reid – 9

Winston Reid can feel aggrieved to not be included in the top three candidates for Hammer of the Year.

The New Zealand international has (at times) carried our defence and proved his value to us again and again.
