So David Sullivan has confirmed what we kind of already suspected – West Ham have agreed to sign Alex Song from Barcelona, but only if he passes a medical.

The Barcelona midfielder has been linked with a permanent move to the club all summer, but negotiations with the La Liga club, the player’s representatives and his ongoing injury have all contributed to a move being delayed.

But now Sullivan has confirmed that he’ll sign for the club before the end of the transfer window if he can pass his medical, but also hinted that the club may even take a risk if doesn’t, should the medical team believe he’ll successfully get over his current injury.

He said: “We have a deal in place with Alex Song subject to a medical.

“If the medical is ok, we’ll take him. He’s injured at the moment, which is something you’ve got to weight up. But we’ve got until September 1st to make a decision.

“He’s a player we all admire and we just hope that the medical shows he’s in a sufficient state for us to gamble.

“He couldn’t physically pass a medical tomorrow, but if the medics say it’s just a technical thing and he’s only a couple of weeks away you’d take that gamble and hope they’re right.”

So at last that’s pretty much done, and West Ham fans on Twitter appear to be delighted. Here’s what they had to say shortly after the news broke…
