West Ham’s Premier League campaign has finally shown signs of life after a disastrous opening spell that left them rooted in the relegation zone.

Nuno Espírito Santo has overseen a mini-revival, guiding the Hammers to back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Burnley before a frustrating 2–2 draw with Bournemouth at the weekend — a match they controlled for long spells and led 2–0 before letting it slip.

The improvement has lifted West Ham out of the bottom three, but absolutely nobody at the club is under any illusions: survival is still far from guaranteed.

The goals have dried up too often, performances in the final third have lacked consistency, and Nuno has made no secret of his desire for reinforcements in January.

A new striker is top of the agenda — and now one Championship star appears to be firmly on the radar.

According to Claret & Hugh, West Ham have already taken concrete steps by sending scouts to watch Norwich City’s Josh Sargent ahead of a possible January approach.

The USA international has scored five times in 16 league outings this season, although he hasn’t found the net in his last 12 as he continues searching for form.

Still, the Hammers view him as a player with upside, and his contract — which runs until 2028 — suggests Norwich won’t let him go cheaply.

Former Canaries boss Liam Manning has previously labelled Sargent the “best Championship striker,” and his numbers back that up. Since Norwich’s relegation in 2022, he has produced goal returns of 13, 16 and 15 in the second tier — steady, reliable output that has kept him on Premier League radars.

Signing a Championship forward may look like a gamble for a club fighting for its life, but West Ham have taken that path before. Jarrod Bowen made the same jump — and that’s worked out just fine.

Maybe Sargent could be the next success story.
