West Ham returned to familiar struggles at the weekend, falling 3-2 to Aston Villa despite taking the lead twice.
An own goal from Konstantinos Mavropanos and a second-half brace from Morgan Rogers sealed the victory for the visitors, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo’s side rooted in 18th place with nearly half the season gone.
Amid the panic, rumours began circulating that versatile midfielder Edson Alvarez could be recalled to help steady the Hammers’ campaign in January.
The club has now responded to said rumours.
West Ham Respond to Alvarez Rumours

West Ham have moved to quash speculation surrounding a potential return for Edson Alvarez.
The Mexican midfielder, described as “versatile” by Tata Martinez, joined the club from Ajax for £34m and initially impressed, but both his form and that of the team dipped after 2024.
Alvarez was loaned to Fenerbahce during the summer as part of the Hammers’ midfield overhaul.
With the club struggling, reports suggested Nuno Espirito Santo might want him back to bolster his squad for the relegation fight.
However, a senior West Ham spokesman has decisively dismissed those claims.
“There is no recall clause for Edson Alvarez,” the representative confirmed to Hammers News.
For now, West Ham will need to look elsewhere to strengthen their squad as the January window approaches.
