West Ham have renewed their interest in highly-rated Porto striker Silvestre Varela, according to talkSPORT.
Manager Sam Allardyce has been left frustrated with some of his transfer targets this summer, with former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou the latest player to turn down a move to Upton Park.
And, with just a week left before the start of the 2013/2014 Premier League season, it appears Allardyce is desperately looking for a back up for club-record signing Andy Carroll.
Varela, who has scored 25 goals in 90 games for Porto, is valued at around £6.5million, but the Hammers are believed to only want to pay a maximum of £5million for the Portuguese’s services.
