West Ham may have shown signs of life under Nuno Espírito Santo, losing just once in their last six Premier League outings, but their league position remains deeply concerning.

Sitting 18th, the threat of relegation continues to loom large.

Defensive lapses have been costly, but the most urgent issue sits at the other end of the pitch.

With only 17 goals scored in 15 matches, the Hammers simply aren’t producing enough in the final third — a problem that must be addressed in January if they are to pull clear of danger.

A proven goalscorer has been identified as Nuno’s top priority, and it appears the club have started making moves behind the scenes.

According to reports from TEAMtalk, West Ham have made a preliminary approach regarding a potential January deal for Corinthians striker Luís Alberto — one of South America’s most in-form forwards.

The 24-year-old has exploded this season, scoring 18 goals across all competitions and emerging as one of Brazil’s deadliest young finishers. Known for his sharp movement, powerful hold-up play and composed finishing, Alberto has quickly become a name on the radar of multiple European clubs.

With a long-term contract running until 2030, Corinthians are under no pressure to sell, but interest is gathering.

West Ham are understood to have made contact with the player’s camp to gauge the conditions of a possible transfer, including what type of offer might persuade the Brazilian giants to negotiate.

TEAMtalk claim West Ham representatives have been active in the region, exploring several attacking options, and Alberto is high on the shortlist. Preliminary discussions have included early conversations over potential personal terms.

However, they are not alone in the race. Everton are also believed to have made an inquiry, with suggestions that a £30m bid is being considered by the Merseyside club, while Crystal Palace are also said to be keen.

West Ham’s interest in Luís Alberto shows just how seriously Nuno and the club view their need for a reliable goalscorer. The Brazilian looks every inch a top-tier talent, but prising him away from Corinthians in January won’t be straightforward.

Still, with the Hammers in desperate need of firepower, it’s a pursuit worth pushing — even if competition is already strong.
